They could be on the verge of going out or have a loose wiring connection. This means that there’s a problem with either the sail switch or the high-temperature limit switch. Related Cold Weather Camping Gear: What to Pack For a Winter RV Adventure Troubleshooting: The Furnace Runs Intermittently Other problems like the circuit board or dirty ignitor probes can also cause this issue but require an RV technician to check. When winter camping, use a tank cover, tank warmers, and/or warming lights to keep the tanks and the regulator warm and protected. | Photo: Brenda PuckettĮxtremely cold and damp outside temperatures can freeze the regulator. A furnace intake exhaust vent on the exterior of an RV. You’ll need an RV technician to remove these obstructions. Reset the system by turning off the furnace at the thermostat and turning it on again to allow the ignition process to restart.Ĭheck the exterior exhaust vent to make sure that it isn’t blocked with spider webs or mud dauber nests-a telltale sign of this is soot on the side of the RV exterior. If your furnace has tried to ignite three times unsuccessfully, it will give you a fault light and go into appliance lockout. Start by checking that the propane tanks (and the LP detector in some furnace types) are turned on and that you have enough propane to provide the high level of British thermal units (BTUs) needed for furnace operation. | Photo: Brenda Puckett Troubleshooting: The Furnace Fan Runs, But The Propane Flame Doesn’t Light Air isn’t necessarily cold during this time, but it might not be as hot. Your furnace also has a high-temperature limit switch to cool down the burn chamber. Have patience and understand that this is normal. Cold air also blows at the end of the cycle for about 45 to 90 seconds (sometimes up to 5 minutes) while the fan purges the system. You’ll feel cold air blowing during this initial procedure. A blower fan must reach a minimum number of cubic feet per minute (CFMs) before telling the propane ignition process to begin. | Photo: Brenda Puckett Troubleshooting: The Furnace Blows Cold Airīecause the furnace utilizes propane as its fuel source, there are several safety features that are enacted before the system fires up. There could be a few other issues that cause the furnace to not kick on that need to be addressed by an RV technician, including loose wiring connections and circuit board problems. Make sure that it’s set to “Heat” or “Furnace.” Next-remember that the thermostat operates from the 12-volt DC coach battery-ensure that your battery is fully charged and then check the 12-volt fuse panel to make sure the furnace fuse isn’t blown. | Photo: Brenda Puckett Troubleshooting: The Furnace Doesn’t Turn on After Setting the Thermostatīelieve it or not, this can be as simple as adjusting the setting on the thermostat. You can help prevent this issue by vacuuming the return area once per month (or more during cold weather season). This is a problem that requires an RV technician to remedy. This can cause an important component called the “sail switch” to get dirty, preventing it from sending a signal to the furnace system that conditions are safe to ignite the propane. The return air compartment doesn’t have a filter and is often located under the refrigerator or someplace low to the floor-this allows dust, food, and debris to get into that area. Related What to Do When Your RV Heat Goes Out Troubleshooting: The Furnace Shuts Off Within 30 Seconds Let’s take a look at a few common problems and troubleshooting solutions for your furnace. RV furnace issues range from the pilot not lighting to blowing out cold air. It’s usually located behind a wall with the only visible elements being the return air vent (located in the interior) and the intake/exhaust vent on the exterior of the RV. The appliance itself is typically not visible.

Effectiveness was evaluated with a reading speed and comprehension test where users read passages and answered questions about them. Preference was evaluated with a toggle task where they tested a total of 16 fonts appearing in pairs. (2020) did a research with 63 participants where they studied font preference and effectiveness. The impact of typeface on readability and usability has already been studied in several previous works and the debate between serif and sans serif has been going on for a long time. In the Discussion we explain and interpret the results, ending with a Conclusion section. The results are shown in the next section. Then, in the Methods section, the development of the experiment and analysis of data are explained. In the Background section the previous work is shown and commented. The remainder of the article is structured in the following way. We also added a specific typography question to assess the typeface preference. To gather user preferences we use a questionnaire where usability, trust, loyalty and the appearance of the website are evaluated. For the reading test we measure speed as well as reading comprehension and warn about it before the test to avoid users skipping the task. To obtain the data we performed two tests using a prototype of an e-commerce website, one that consists on completing some tasks and a reading test where participants have to read the description of a product of the website. In our study, we test how the difference between serif and sans serif typefaces of the same family affects usability, from an objective and subjective perspective. Some studies evidence there is an difference in readability between serif and sans serif ( Rello & Baeza-Yates, 2016 Dogusoy, Cicek & Cagiltay, 2016), while others state that the difference is only in user preference ( Bernard et al., 2003 Boyarski et al., 1998).Īlthough previous works are interesting, they compare serif and sans serif typefaces of different families, which could be a bias given that it is not possible to know if the differences come from the serif/sans serif characteristic or from user preference towards one of the selected families. We want to test whether this trend is supported by user preferences or performance on the website. Most important companies are also changing their logos to a simple sans serif text with their brand name, in contrast to the more complex logos they used to have ( Sienkiewicz, 2020). In the case of the biggest e-commerce websites such as Amazon, Ebay or Walmart 1 There is a belief that serif typefaces improve readability, but some authors consider it a myth ( Latin, 2017). Both types are preferred by users, compared to script and monospace, given their characteristics of font personality ( Sasidharan & Dhanesh, 2008). It is unclear whether serif or sans serif is more desirable. One of the parameters that affects readability, and thus usability on a website is the typeface that is used. Therefore there is a real economic incentive in attracting the user’s attention and thus, improving usability. Online websites have to compete for the user’s attention in order to increase their traffic. Time spent online has steadily increased over the past years and users become increasingly more selective regarding their website activity ( Statistics & Data, 2021). In the third quarter of 2021, users spent an average of 6 h and 58 min surfing the web ( Kemp, 2022). The importance of our research relies on how useful it is for e-commerce websites to improve usability in order to gain clients. She said that there are parts of history, and parts of people’s experiences, that don’t get enough attention. It tells a story of Syracuse from the perspective of the Black community there. The book gave her a chance to enter someone else’s life through literature, Zamkoff said. “But now she has gifted me something even more, which was giving me some insight into her life.” “(Slechta) has been a great gift in my life,” Zamkoff said. She said she attended the event primarily because she found the book remarkable, but also because it tells the story of a dear friend. They discussed history and stories that would later be included in the book.īryant loves that you “can’t contain Mulberry Street.” It includes the natural and the supernatural, and every event seems to happen at the same point in time, for better or for worse, Slechta said. She went to the University of Connecticut for her undergraduate degree and SU for her master’s degree in English, where she graduated in 1982. She first lived in the East Side, then moved to Westcott and now lives in DeWitt. Slechta is originally from Connecticut, but has lived in the Syracuse area for the majority of her life. She was inspired by looking out of her own window in Syracuse, a Dr. She attended an annual retreat put on by the organization in New Mexico later that year.Īt the retreat, she began writing a collection of short stories about a fictionalized version of her neighborhood that combined elements of fantasy, history and her own experiences. In 2019, Kimbilio, an organization that supports Black fiction writers, named Slechta a Kimbilio Fellow. “She has wide and deep roots here, and I think that that’s interesting, that that kind of sensibility is also in (her book).” “(The event tonight) says something about her networks in Syracuse,” Syracuse University professor Joan Bryant said. We had IBM stuff and it was okay but you sometimes find an app you think this is how I think and I would make this app - well this is it for me with UML. This is WAY better than what we had in the labs I had been using. I will be using it now for all my UML work. Drawing tools are really nice just like adobe. I just used this to do entire database course at my school and it worked perfectly from UML to ER to ORM what a treat (SQL generation was really good).
